Skin Surgery
Our Skin Surgery service is here to provide safe and effective treatment for a variety of skin lesions. Performed under local anaesthetic by skilled clinicians, we prioritise both clinical excellence and patient comfort.
All surgical patients must first be assessed during a clinic appointment. Direct booking for surgery is not available. If you are concerned about a lesion or wish to discuss surgery, please schedule a dermatology appointment using the ‘Book Appointment’ button below.
Skin lesion excision
Types of lesions we can remove :
Skin lesions may be removed due to concern, because they are catching and irritating or for cosmetic reasons. Whatever the reason for removal, your surgeon will talk through the process with you, and you will together decide on the most appropriate surgical technique.
Here at The Private Medical Group, we provide comprehensive pre-operative and post-operative care information and ongoing access to support and follow-up. In the vast majority of cases a sample will be sent to the laboratory for assessment, the result of this will always be communicated to you.
All of our surgery is performed by experienced clinicians using local anaesthetic. In most cases you will be fine to drive and work immediately after the procedure; unless operating on areas such as the hands or feet.
Most procedures take between 30 and 60 minutes. Guidance on post-surgery wound care will be provide; usually you will be asked to keep the area dry for between 24 and 48 hrs after the procedure.
We do not always need to use sutures (stitches) but where used they may be dissolvable or non-dissolvable, depending on the lesion and location. Where non-dissolvable sutures are used these will need to be removed between 5 and 14 days after the procedure, dependent on the location. All of this information will be provided to you before and again after the procedure.
Skin biopsy
Depending on the type of biopsy undertaken it may or may not require sutures (stitches). All biopsy samples are sent for laboratory assessment, the results of which will always be communicated to you.
Chaperones
A chaperone will be available during all clinic appointments. They will always be present during procedures, skin surgery and mole mapping.
If you would like to have a chaperone present at any time, please just ask.
